Queenstown Events Centre (John Davies Oval, Queenstown)

Queenstown, New Zealand

The Queenstown Events Centre is bordered by farmland and nestles in the foothills of the stunning mountain range, The Remarkables. They are aptly named, and the ground is situated in a very picturesque area, near Lake Wakatipu.

The ground held its first international in 2003, just two years after becoming a first-class venue. There are no plans to hold Tests there just yet, as the facilities aren't quite up to scratch, but discussions are being held about the possibility. The centre itself holds events such as dinners, film shoots and concerts, including acts such as international icon Joe Cocker, Jimmy Barnes and Little River Band.

True to its name, the Queenstown Events Centre is a multi-purpose sports stadium. Situated in Queenstown, South Island, New Zealand, this venue boasts of a multi-purpose indoor and outdoor stadium. This stadium is hailed as one of the most spectacular international cricketing venues of the world. Apart from international cricketing matches, the venue plays host to rugby games, trade shows, seminars and exhibitions. The ground is located in the picturesque setting between the shores of Lake Wakatipu and the Remarkables. As per an initiative set up in 2004, the Queenstown Events Centre Trust unveiled a plan that could see the complex further expanded to involve a greater variety of events and added attractions in the years to come.

Stadium History:

Eden Park is New Zealand's largest stadium. Our rich sporting and social history, and our international profile, is unmatched by any other stadium in the country.

Eden Park has been in existence as a sports ground since 1900. It began its life as a swamp, but by 1914 the ground was drained and turned into two ovals.

The Park became the home of Auckland Cricket in 1910. The Auckland Rugby Union leased the Park in 1914, officially making Eden Park its home in 1925.

In 1926 a Trust was set up that provided for a group of Trustees to manage Eden Park primarily for the benefit of Auckland Cricket and Auckland Rugby. The Trust still manages the Park today.
